Serving Vancouver Since 1946
About Windsor Quality Meats
Windsor Quality Meats has been serving the Main Street Neighbourhood since 1946, when George Freeman opened the store next to the Aristocrat restaurant after World War 2 and it has been owned and operated by the Freeman family since. Taken over by Rick Freeman in 1985, the butcher shop has mostly recently been passed to his son Connor in 2009.
Since 1946, Windsor Quality Meats have been proud to be The Meat Men on Main. Friendly, helpful men with cleavers who wrap up your order in (recyclable) paper and send you off with a smile, knowing you’re getting the top-notch, award-winning product that the finest chefs in town insist on. That’s why we’ve won many Best Vancouver Butcher awards over the years.
The beef we carry are fed a wholesome diet of forages and rolled barley. No hormones, additives, antibiotics, or steroids are ever added. Our suppliers treat the animals with care and compassion. A select group of ranchers register each animal with the Canadian Cattlemen Identification Association and commit to a voluntary third party audit process that monitors every step of their animal care.

The tomahawk steak is an incredibly tender steak with buttery, rich flavor.
It is essentially a ribeye beef steak specifically cut with at least five inches of rib bone left intact. This section of the animal naturally collects more intramuscular fat, creating the beautiful white lines of fat – the fantastic marbling is unique to the rib primal. We age our tomahawks for at least 30 days to add even more flavour! The extra-long, french trimmed bone utilizes the same culinary technique that shapes a rack of lamb resembling a handle.
Beef From the Okanagan
Grass fed and grain finished beef has excellent marbling, texture and taste. All cattle are from local farms in the BC southern interior. Grass fed beef are treated humanely and allowed to roam freely and graze on grass and vegetation around them. Their diet is supplemented with grain as they age for better marbling and tenderness. No animal bi products, chemicals or growth hormones are used.
Wagyu Beef In Vancouver
We source premium Wagyu beef from various ranches around the world. Research shows that the beef from long-fed Wagyu cattle naturally contains more Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, as well as more monounsaturated fatty acids (the good fat) than other beef. The high percentage of fatty acids affect the texture and “feel” of food in the mouth, particularly in meats. Wagyu gives a particularly rich and beefy flavour.
